Kutandala Camp stands on the bank of the Mwaleshi River inside North Luangwa National Park, one of the most remote and least-visited protected areas in Zambia. It reopened under new operation in 2024 and runs five tents.
Best for
Experienced safari travellers who want walking safaris in a park with no public road access to its interior, and anyone who values very low guest numbers.
Location
The Mwaleshi River, North Luangwa National Park, Muchinga Province. The Mwaleshi is the principal game-viewing feature of this sector of the park.
Rooms and style at Kutandala Camp
Five safari tents. Guest numbers are deliberately kept low.
Facilities at Kutandala Camp
The camp’s emphasis is walking safaris, supplemented by game drives. It is run as a sister camp to Musekese and Ntemwa-Busanga in Kafue and to Chula and Kutali in the Lower Zambezi, so it is commonly combined with those.
Trade-offs and what to know
Open 1 June to 31 October only, and closed for the wet season.
North Luangwa has no public road access to its interior. Access is arranged by the operator.
The camp changed hands and reopened in 2024, so older sources name previous operators.
Getting there and getting around
North Luangwa lies north of South Luangwa below the Muchinga escarpment, and access is by arrangement with the operator rather than self-drive. Most guests fly in and combine the camp with others in the group. Movement in camp is on foot with a guide.
Explore the area
North Luangwa is walking safari country and is far quieter than the southern park. For the valley as a whole see our Luangwa Valley pages.
Before you book
Check your dates against the 1 June to 31 October season. Confirm how access is arranged, since you cannot drive yourself in. And ask how the camp combines with its sister properties.
