North Luangwa

North Luangwa is the most restricted of Zambia’s major parks. There is no general public access, only a small number of licensed operators, and the season is short — broadly June to October. Accommodation is limited to a few bushcamps, and the experience is built around walking rather than driving.

This is not somewhere you book a room; it is somewhere you book a guided itinerary, usually three or four nights, often combined with South Luangwa at the start or end. The park is known for large buffalo herds, the lions that follow them, and for being genuinely empty of other visitors. It rewards people who already know they want to walk, and suits nobody who wants flexibility.
