Northern Zambia is the long way round: Lake Tanganyika, the Kalambo and Lumangwe falls, and Nsumbu National Park on the lakeshore. Distances are genuinely large and the last stretches are gravel. Places to stay are few, owner-run and worth the journey only if you give the region proper time.
