Lusaka is where most Zambian trips begin and end, and the Kafue Flats lie a couple of hours west. Accommodation here is overwhelmingly practical: capital-city hotels built for business, government and NGO travel, used by visitors as the comfortable night either side of a bush flight rather than as a destination in itself. Kabwe, on the Great North Road, is grouped here as the practical break in the long drive north.
