Southern Sun Ridgeway is a hotel on the corner of Church Road and Independence Avenue in Lusaka’s Ridgeway district, the city’s diplomatic and institutional quarter. It has been a landmark for more than seventy years, trading in turn as the Ridgeway Hotel and a Holiday Inn.

Best for

Business and institutional travellers working in the embassy quarter, and safari travellers who need a dependable, well-connected night either side of a bush flight. The on-site bank branch and bureau de change are genuinely useful in Lusaka. Not a destination in itself, and not for anyone wanting walkable city life: Ridgeway is quiet and institutional and the commercial centre is a drive.

Location

The hotel sits about 2.7 km from the Cairo Road commercial centre. The Lusaka National Museum, the Freedom Statue and Embassy Park are the nearest points of interest.

154 rooms in standard, executive and suite categories, as published by the operator. Suites add a separate lounge and a private balcony. Rooms have blackout curtains, satellite television, tea and coffee facilities, a safe, minibar and air conditioning.

Outdoor pool set among palms, a 24-hour gym, one restaurant with a terrace bar, six conference venues seating up to 300, a business centre, bureau de change, ATM, an on-site bank branch and car hire. Free uncapped wifi throughout and free secure parking. The grounds include mature gardens and a pond courtyard with a resident reed-nesting weaver colony.

Conferences. With 154 rooms and six venues, a large conference turns the public areas, breakfast and pool into a conference hotel.

Airport distance. About 40 minutes in traffic, which is a poor match for a dawn departure.

Kenneth Kaunda International Airport is about 40 minutes away depending on traffic, and an airport shuttle is available. Walking after dark is not the norm in this district, so budget for taxis.
