Zikomo Safari Camp has nine chalets on the bank of the Luangwa River, across the water from the Nsefu sector of South Luangwa National Park and about forty-five minutes from Mfuwe International Airport. Alongside the chalets it runs Kauluzi House, a private residence sleeping up to twelve.
Best for
Travellers who want walking safaris in the Nsefu sector rather than the busier Mfuwe end of the park, and families or groups who can take a private house with its own chef. Not for anyone who wants to be close to the airport or to arrive late in the day.
Location
Plot 24623, Nsefu Sector, South Luangwa. The camp is on the Luangwa River opposite the park, with Mfuwe International Airport about forty-five minutes away by road.
Rooms and style at Zikomo Safari Camp
Nine hand-built chalets, all en suite, plus Kauluzi House, a private residence with its own kitchen and chef sleeping up to twelve people. The camp does not publish chalet sizes or bed configurations.
Facilities at Zikomo Safari Camp
En-suite bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, a swimming pool, dining, airport transfers, morning and evening game drives and walking safaris in the Nsefu sector. Excursions run to the Chichele hot springs, the stork colony, the carmine bee-eater nesting banks and the hippo pods, and to local villages and artists.
Trade-offs and what to know
The camp does not publish its operating season. Most Luangwa camps close or reduce operations in the wet months, so confirm your dates before booking flights.
Forty-five minutes from the airport on Luangwa roads is longer in the rains.
Nine chalets is small. That is the appeal and it is also why availability goes early in the dry season.
Being across the river from the park means crossing to game-drive, which shapes the daily rhythm.
Getting there and getting around
Mfuwe International Airport takes scheduled flights from Lusaka and is the normal way in; the camp transfers from there in about forty-five minutes. Driving from Lusaka is a long day on the Great East Road through Chipata and then north to Mfuwe. Once you are at the camp, all movement is on camp vehicles or on foot with a guide.
Explore the area
The Nsefu sector is the oldest part of South Luangwa and the walking safari’s birthplace, with the stork colony and the bee-eater banks among its set pieces. For what else is in the valley, see our Luangwa Valley pages.
Before you book
Confirm the operating season and whether your dates fall inside it. Ask whether you want a chalet or the house, since the house is a separate product. Book the Mfuwe flight and the transfer together. And ask which activities are included and which are extra.
Current rates and availability
We do not publish fixed rates for Zikomo Safari Camp, because pricing and availability change with dates and demand.
