Royal Solwezi Hotel stands on Old Chingola Road about three kilometres from the centre of Solwezi, the provincial capital of North-Western Zambia and the town that serves the Kansanshi and Lumwana copper mines. It has 48 rooms and 14 self-catering apartments, and it publishes its own coordinates, which is rarer in this province than it should be.
Best for
Business travellers to the North-Western copper belt who want a full-service hotel with a pool, a gym and room service, and longer stays that suit a self-catering apartment better than a hotel room. Also for anyone who wants to be near Solwezi without being in the middle of it.
Location
447 Old Chingola Road, Solwezi, North-Western Province. The hotel puts itself three kilometres from the city centre. Old Chingola Road runs east out of town towards the Copperbelt, so the hotel is on the side you arrive from if you are driving in from Chingola.
Rooms and style at Royal Solwezi
Forty-eight rooms across standard, executive deluxe, standard twin, executive twin and presidential grades, plus fourteen self-catering apartments for guests staying longer. Those figures are the hotel’s own, and they are consistent across its site.
Facilities at Royal Solwezi
Restaurant, bar and a separate outdoor bar, an outdoor swimming pool, an outdoor gym, a padel centre, a conference room, Wi-Fi, DStv, twenty-four hour room service, laundry, and airport pick-up and drop-off.
Trade-offs and what to know
The hotel publishes a conference room but no capacity figure, so confirm the numbers before you book an event into it.
Three kilometres out means a vehicle or a taxi for anything in town.
Solwezi is a working mining town rather than a tourist destination. The hotel describes itself as serving businessmen and travellers alike, and the first of those is the larger trade.
The nearest national park of any scale, West Lunga, is a long way west on poor roads. It is not a day trip from here.
Getting there and getting around
Solwezi is roughly 180 km west of Chingola on the T5, which puts it around six hours from Lusaka by road through the Copperbelt. The town has an airport and the hotel offers pick-up and drop-off, but domestic schedules to Solwezi change, so check what is flying before you plan around it. Once you are here a vehicle is necessary; there is no useful public transport for visitors.
Explore the area
Mutanda Falls, the waterfall in the photograph on this page, is a national heritage site about 35 km from Solwezi on the Chingola side and the most accessible sight near the town. Kifubwa Stream Rock Shelter, with its engraved rock faces, lies on the edge of Solwezi itself. For the wider province and the Copperbelt towns east of here, see our Copperbelt and North-Western Zambia pages.
Before you book
Say whether you want a room or an apartment. They are different products at the same address, and the apartments suit stays of a week or more. If you need the conference room, ask what it seats, because that is not published. Arrange the airport transfer in advance. And confirm the padel centre and the gym are open if they are part of why you are choosing the hotel.
Current rates and availability
We do not publish fixed rates for Royal Solwezi Hotel, because pricing and availability change with dates and demand.
