Kabwe Safari Lodge is a fifteen-room town lodge on Godetia Street in Luangwa Township, a quiet residential quarter a short drive from the centre of Kabwe. The name misleads in one respect: there is no game area and no safari operation attached to it. The property is German-owned and traded until recently as Luangwa Safari Lodge, a name that still appears on its own map listing and in several trade databases.
Best for
Drivers breaking the Great North Road run between Lusaka and the Copperbelt, and anyone visiting Kabwe who would rather have a pool, a restaurant and a garden than a room above the highway. Not for travellers who read the word safari in the name and expect wildlife.
Location
7 Godetia Street, Luangwa Township, Kabwe, Central Province. The operator puts the town centre at around fifteen minutes on foot, and elsewhere on its own site at a few minutes by car. Both are plausible for a property a little over a kilometre out.
Rooms and style at Kabwe Safari Lodge
Fifteen rooms, all en suite, with a choice of single, double, twin or king beds. Each has hot water, a television with a decoder, and mosquito nets with mosquito-proofed windows. The operator states fifteen rooms; one review platform lists twelve. We have used the operator’s own figure.
Facilities at Kabwe Safari Lodge
Swimming pool, restaurant and bar, free Wi-Fi, DStv, laundry, and what the operator itself calls basic conference facilities. Parking is secure, though the operator warns that space is limited. An airport shuttle is available on request.
Trade-offs and what to know
The name promises a safari. There is not one here.
Parking is described by the operator as limited, which matters if you are in a long vehicle or travelling in convoy.
The conference facilities are basic. That is the operator’s own word for them.
The room count is not settled: fifteen from the operator, twelve on a review platform.
The former name, Luangwa Safari Lodge, still appears in search results and on the property’s own map pin, which can make one business look like two.
Getting there and getting around
Kabwe sits on the T2 Great North Road roughly 140 km north of Lusaka and around 300 km south of Ndola, which makes it a natural overnight stop in either direction. Luangwa Township lies off the main road on the western side of town, so you leave the highway for the last stretch. There is no scheduled air service to Kabwe; the shuttle the lodge mentions runs to Lusaka by arrangement. A vehicle is the practical way to move around town.
Explore the area
Kabwe has more history than its reputation suggests. The Broken Hill mine here produced the fossil skull found in 1921 that gave Homo rhodesiensis its name. The Mulungushi Rock of Authority, north-east of town, is where the independence-era political conventions were held, and Mulungushi Dam is the usual day trip. For what else is within reach, see our Lusaka and the Kafue Flats pages.
Before you book
Ask whether the pool and the restaurant are operating on your dates. Confirm parking if your vehicle is large. If you want the airport shuttle, arrange it in advance rather than on arrival. And search for both names, because a listing under Luangwa Safari Lodge is the same place.
Current rates and availability
We do not publish fixed rates for Kabwe Safari Lodge, because pricing and availability change with dates and demand.
