Mbala & Kalambo Falls

Mbala sits high above the Rift escarpment near the Tanzanian border, and it is the last town before the road drops to Lake Tanganyika. Accommodation is limited to a few guesthouses and small lodges, straightforward and inexpensive.

People stay here for Kalambo Falls, one of the highest uninterrupted waterfalls in Africa, which plunges into a gorge on the border about forty kilometres away on a rough road, and for the Moto Moto Museum in town, which holds one of the better ethnographic collections in the country. It also breaks the descent to Mpulungu, which is not a drive to do tired or in the dark.
