Samfya & Lake Bangweulu
Samfya sits on the southern shore of Lake Bangweulu, and it surprises most first-time visitors: white sand, clear water and a genuine beach several hundred kilometres from the sea. The accommodation is simple — small lakeside lodges and guesthouses, mostly locally run — and it serves domestic weekend traffic and travellers breaking the drive along the Great North Road.
It works as a rest stop with a swim rather than as a wildlife destination, and it pairs naturally with Kasanka or the Bangweulu wetlands, which are a few hours away. Expect basic facilities, intermittent power and a much better setting than the room standard would suggest.
