Choma
Choma sits on the Batoka plateau on the main road between Lusaka and Livingstone, high enough to be noticeably cooler than the valley and surrounded by commercial farmland. It has a long settler and Tonga history, a provincial museum and crafts centre, and the unhurried feel of a Southern Province market town rather than a tourist stop.
Most people who stay here are breaking the drive south. Choma is roughly the halfway point, it has fuel and supplies, and a night here turns a punishing single day into two comfortable ones. It is also a quieter and usually cheaper alternative to sleeping in Livingstone itself if you are arriving from the north.
