Chirundu
Chirundu is the Zambezi crossing on the road to Harare, a hot, low-lying border town at the western end of the Lower Zambezi. The town itself is a working freight post: bonded yards, clearing agents and a bridge that carries a great deal of the traffic between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is not, in itself, a scenic place to stay.
The river a short way downstream is another matter. Several of the properties filed here are genuine Lower Zambezi river camps and lodges on the Zambian bank, within reach of the Chiawa area and the national park boundary, rather than border-town guest houses. Reading each listing carefully matters more here than in most destinations, because the two kinds of property sit only a few kilometres apart.
