Garden Court Kitwe stands on the corner of Independence and Freedom Avenues in the middle of Kitwe, the largest city on the Copperbelt. It has 130 rooms and six conference venues that between them seat up to 340 people, which makes it the obvious address for anything organised in the city.
Best for
Business travellers to the Copperbelt mines and the companies that serve them, and conferences and functions that need real capacity without going to Ndola or Lusaka. Also a straightforward city stopover if you are driving the Copperbelt circuit.
Location
Corner Independence and Freedom Avenues, Kitwe, Copperbelt Province. The hotel does not publish a distance to the town centre because it is in it; nor does it publish a distance to the airport. Kitwe lies about 60 km north-west of Ndola, where the nearest commercial airport is.
Rooms and style at Garden Court Kitwe
130 rooms in three grades: standard, double double and executive. The hotel does not publish the split between them. Rooms follow the Garden Court standard, which is mid-market rather than luxury.
Facilities at Garden Court Kitwe
The Copper Club restaurant, the Copper Club Bar and Terrace, an outdoor pool with a sun deck, a 24-hour fitness centre, free unlimited Wi-Fi, on-site parking and six conference venues.
Trade-offs and what to know
No airport shuttle is listed, and Ndola’s airport is about an hour away. Arrange a transfer.
No laundry service is listed either. Ask at reception rather than assuming.
340 is the total across six venues, not the capacity of one room. Get the figure for the room you are given.
A central city hotel on two main avenues is not a quiet one. Ask for a room off the corner if that matters.
Getting there and getting around
Kitwe is on the T3 about 60 km north-west of Ndola and roughly 360 km north of Lusaka. Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport at Ndola is the nearest commercial airport, about an hour away by road. The hotel is central, so the banks and the shops are walkable, but you will want a vehicle for anything outside the city.
Explore the area
The hotel names Lake Kashiba, the Chembe Bird Sanctuary, Mwekwera Falls and the Copperbelt Museum as what is within reach; the museum is in Ndola. Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage, the chimpanzee sanctuary, is north-west of Kitwe. For the wider region, see our Copperbelt and North-Western Zambia pages.
Before you book
Specify the grade, because standard and executive are different rooms at the same address. If you are booking an event, ask which of the six venues and what it seats. Check-in is 14:00 and check-out is 11:00. And arrange airport transfers from Ndola yourself.
