Mpika

Mpika stands high on the Muchinga plateau at the point where the Great North Road swings north towards Tanzania. It is the largest town between Kapiri Mposhi and Kasama, and for most travellers it is the natural end of a long driving day. The air is cooler here than on the plateau below, and the escarpment falls away to the east towards the Luangwa.

It is also a genuine gateway. The roads to North Luangwa, to Shiwa Ng’andu and Kapishya, to Mutinondo and down towards the Bangweulu wetlands all leave from or near Mpika, which is why its lodges see a mix of long-distance drivers, contractors and people staging into the bush. Fuel, supplies and a secure compound matter more here than décor.

Every property below is filed here because its own coordinates place it inside the approved Mpika catchment. Each listing is our own write-up of where it sits and who it suits, with a live availability link on the page. We do not publish prices, ratings or traveller reviews, and we do not reproduce operators’ own marketing text.
