Kapiri Mposhi
Kapiri Mposhi is a junction rather than a destination. It is where the Great North Road meets the road up to the Copperbelt, and it is the southern terminus of the TAZARA railway that runs to Dar es Salaam. The station a few kilometres out of town is the reason many visitors are here at all, and the town’s rhythm follows the trains and the trucks.
Staying here is almost always about breaking a journey: north towards Mpika and the lakes, north-west towards Ndola and Kitwe, or south back to Lusaka. The lodges reflect that honestly. They are built for one night, for early departures and for people who want a secure compound, a meal and a bed rather than a view.
