Southern Kafue & Itezhi-Tezhi
The southern end of Kafue National Park runs down to Lake Itezhi-Tezhi, the reservoir formed by the dam on the Kafue River. It is a different landscape from the rest of the park — open water, a drowned shoreline and long views — and the handful of lodges here sit on or near the lake rather than deep in the bush.
The area works well for a first or last night in Kafue, for birding, and for anyone who wants a park stay reachable by road from Lusaka without committing to a fly-in camp. It is also the closest part of the park to the Kafue Flats, so it combines reasonably with a lechwe and birding detouron the way in or out. Access is on gravel for the final stretch and deteriorates in the rains.
