Livingstone Backpackers is in the centre of Livingstone, close to the bus stops and the shops, with the activity desk that most travellers actually come for. It describes itself as primarily for backpackers and for adventurous travellers on a budget who are prepared to share rooms.

Best for

Independent travellers doing Victoria Falls on a budget, and anyone who wants the rafting, bungee and microlight bookings handled from the same counter as their bed. Not for travellers who want a private, quiet room: the hostel is honest that sharing is the norm here.

Location

Livingstone town centre. The hostel puts itself in the heart of town, close to bus stops and shops, and names Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and Victoria Falls as what is nearby. It does not publish a street address, so confirm one before you travel.

Rooms and style at Livingstone Backpackers

The hostel does not publish its room types, dormitory configurations or bed count, and we will not invent them. What it does say is that rooms are shared and the clientele is budget and independent. Ask directly if you need a private room.

Facilities at Livingstone Backpackers

A well-stocked bar, kitchen and cooking facilities, a pool, a hot tub, a climbing wall and 24-hour security. Activities are booked in-house and picked up from the door.

Trade-offs and what to know

No published address, no published bed count, no published check-in times. This is a hostel that runs on walk-ins and word of mouth.

Wi-Fi, parking and laundry are not stated. Ask before you arrive if any of them matter.

Rooms are shared by default.

A town-centre hostel with a bar is lively at night. That is the trade for being where everything starts.

Getting there and getting around

Livingstone is 470 km south-west of Lusaka on the T1, and Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport is a few kilometres from the town centre. Victoria Falls is about 10 km south of town. The hostel says activity operators collect from the door, which removes most of the transport problem; otherwise taxis and shared minibuses cover the town.

Explore the area

Victoria Falls and Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park are the reason to be here, with the Livingstone Museum, the Railway Museum and the Mukuni craft market in town. For what else is nearby, see our Livingstone pages.

Before you book

Ask for the street address and confirm whether a private room is available on your dates. Ask about Wi-Fi and parking. Book the big activities, especially the Devil’s Pool, well in advance rather than on arrival. And check what is included with the bed, since nothing is published.

Current rates and availability

We do not publish fixed rates for Livingstone Backpackers, because pricing and availability change with dates and demand. Use the Check Availability button on this page to see the current options offered by the independent booking provider. Zambia Travel Guide does not set prices, hold inventory or take payment.
