Latitude 15° is a 32-room boutique hotel on Leopards Lane in Kabulonga, a leafy residential suburb on the south-east side of Lusaka rather than in the central business district. It is built around a private members’ club, The Other Side, which gives the place a social life of its own: Lusaka residents come for the music nights and the food, not only the guests.

Best for

Travellers who want a design-led base in Lusaka with somewhere to actually sit and eat, and who would rather be in a quiet suburb than on a main road. It suits longer stays too, because three of the units are two-bedroom suites with private kitchens. Not for anyone wanting a quiet retreat or a walkable city-centre position — the public areas are busy on music nights, and everything in town is a drive.

Location

Kabulonga, on the south-east side of Lusaka. The operator puts the city centre at about 20 minutes and Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at about 30 minutes; a specialist operator that sells the hotel quotes nearer 45 minutes from the airport. Lusaka traffic is the variable, so allow for the longer figure.

Rooms and style at Latitude 15°

Thirty-two rooms, including three two-bedroom suites with private kitchens. Rooms have king or twin beds, air conditioning, a flat-screen television, a Nespresso machine, complimentary still and sparkling water, a walk-in shower and a full-size bath, a wardrobe, sofa, desk and chair, and a minibar. The hotel builds its interiors around contemporary Zambian and African art rather than standard hotel decor.

Facilities at Latitude 15°

Restaurant, bar, lounge, poolside terrace, heated swimming pool, gym, spa, purpose-built workspaces, and the private members’ club with its own dining and drinking spaces. There is a regular programme of live music, art, fashion and business events. One specialist listing credits two restaurants and two pools; the operator’s own pages describe one of each plus the club, and that is the figure used here.

Trade-offs and what to know

Suburban, not central. The city centre and the airport are both a drive, and Lusaka traffic can double the quoted times.

A social venue as well as a hotel. Live music on Wednesday and Friday evenings and a members’ club mean the public areas can be lively.

Pool safety. The pool is unfenced and has a deep end, and upper-floor balconies are noted as unsuitable for children under six.

Accessibility on request. Step-free access is arranged rather than standard, so confirm before booking.

Getting there and getting around

Kenneth Kaunda International Airport is the arrival point for almost all international visitors to Zambia, and the hotel is about 30 to 45 minutes away by road depending on traffic. There is no walking to the city from Kabulonga; the hotel arranges transfers and taxis.

Before you book

The operator’s published terms give occupancy from 15:00 to 11:00 the following day, though the wording on their own page is garbled — confirm the times. Payment is accepted in US dollars, kwacha or by recognised card at the front desk, and a deposit may be required. Children of all ages are accepted according to a specialist listing, with cots and highchairs; the operator does not publish a children’s policy. Pets are not addressed anywhere.
