How this listing is funded. Zambia Travel Guide is funded by affiliate commission. If you follow the availability link below to a booking provider and go on to book, we may earn a commission from that provider. You pay nothing extra — the price you see is the price you would pay going direct. Commission does not decide what appears here: this property is listed because it is a real, identifiable business a traveller might reasonably want to know about, and it is described as we find it, including its drawbacks. We do not accept payment for inclusion, for a higher position, or for a more favourable description. Availability and prices belong to the booking provider, not to us, and should always be checked before you book. Full terms are in our affiliate disclosure.

Check Availability

Mayukuyuku Bush Camp sits directly on the bank of the Kafue River inside Kafue National Park, about 8 km off the main road that dissects the park and roughly 250 km from Lusaka. Unusually for Kafue, it is open and accessible twelve months of the year.

Best for

Self-drive travellers who want a genuine bush camp inside the park without flying in, and anyone visiting outside the dry season, when most Kafue camps are shut.

Location

The Kafue River bank on the southern edge of the park’s northern sector, about 8 km off the main road through Kafue National Park and roughly 250 km from Lusaka. The position gives access to both the northern and southern sections of the park.

Rooms and style at Mayukuyuku Bush Camp

Four tented chalets plus an open dining area. Camping is offered as an alternative to full-board tented chalet accommodation.

Facilities at Mayukuyuku Bush Camp

An open dining area, game viewing from camp, and a campsite alongside the chalets. The camp is run as its operator’s single property, so it is small and owner-managed rather than part of a circuit.

Trade-offs and what to know

Four chalets. A single group can take the camp.

8 km off the main park road on bush tracks. Check vehicle requirements before driving in.

The OpenStreetMap name calls it a lodge. It is a bush camp, and the difference matters.

Getting there and getting around

Kafue National Park lies west of Lusaka, and the camp is roughly 250 km from the city, reached via the main road through the park and then about 8 km of track. It is one of the few Kafue camps reachable by road year-round.

Explore the area

Kafue is the largest national park in Zambia, and the Kafue River is its central feature. For the rest of the park see our Kafue National Park pages.

Before you book

Say chalet or campsite. Ask what vehicle you need for the final 8 km. And confirm what is included, since the chalets are full board and the campsite is not.
